Restore Hyper Wellness + Cryotherapy: Helping You Do More of What You Love

If there’s one trend we’re seeing in 2021, it’s a focus on recovery. 2020 was all about survival. Then, we all slowly realized it’s time to take control of our health again. Eventually, we will need to upgrade our sweatpants to real pants. So, we started pushing ourselves, and our bodies, hard. Our minds have been stressed, now our bodies are stressed, and proper recovery is becoming more important than ever.

Restore Hyper Wellness + Cryotherapy is celebrating their grand opening in Hyde Park, and their offerings are vast. So much so that it took me two, two-hour appointments to get through less than half of their service offerings. They started in Austin, TX, and have franchised and quickly grown to over 90 locations.

Hold up, what is “Hyper Wellness”?

Hyper Wellness was coined by Restore, and is a lifestyle that improves the lives of their customers.

They believe that their customers should feel better right away, with services that are supported by science and medicine and available to everyone. Also, that scalable, repeatable processes help drive affordability. In other words, they want their space to be approachable, affordable, and effective for all.

Their services offerings are extensive. Here’s what I tried:

Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHbOT): this is the treatment that I was the most excited to try. Basically, you sit in a bubble, aka “pressurized chamber” and breathe 90-90% pure oxygen. Other than your ears popping a bit as the chamber fills up, you feel pretty normal while you’re in there. You can bring your computer, your phone, or even better pop in some headphones and listen to a podcast or guided meditation. The excess pressure in the pod “causes the blood plasma, all of your cells, tissues, and fluids to hold up to 10 times more oxygen than the normal concentration. With more oxygen, all of your cells can produce energy more effectively, and your body can heal itself in profound ways.” After 60 minutes in the chamber, I exited it feeling over the top energized. I was excited to get home and do a bit of cardio, expecting it to make me feel invincible. Not so much, but I imagine that over time it may help with athletic performance.

Photobiomodulation Therapy: Using infrared light, it’s known to reduce pain and inflammation, and increase functional recovery. Acute injuries and inflammation from muscle strains and sprains, cuts, bruises, burns, etc. typically show very rapid improvement and can resolve in 2-4 treatments. Long-term, chronic conditions can take as little as 12 sessions to see significant benefits.

Compression Therapy:  Using the NormaTec Recovery System, these sleeves maximize circulation throughout the body to help you feel better, train harder, and recover faster. Increased flexibility, stimulate blood flow, and reduces soreness. Basically, it’s the ideal recovery method after a big leg day.

Stretch+: Restore has a team of individuals that come from all different backgrounds – strength and conditioning coaches, personal trainers, athletic trainers, aspiring occupational and physical therapists, as well as yoga instructors, that do assisted stretching to help reduce the risk of injury, assist in reducing back pain, encourage body awareness, reduce muscle tension, and foster physical and mental relaxation. You simply lay on the table, and let them manipulate your body into deep, assisted stretches. It feels amazing.

Infrared Sauna Therapy: like a traditional sauna, but it uses infrared light to heat you directly instead of heating the air (so, you aren’t completely dripping in sweat the entire time). Saunas help rid the body of toxins, increase circulation to facilitate recovery, release heat shock proteins to promote muscle growth due to heat stress, and increase your body’s time to fatigue resulting in increased endurance. In short, feels amazing.

Here’s everything else they offer:

Cryotherapy: known to reduce inflammation and release endorphins that help alleviate pain, boost energy and metabolism, and increase the body’s natural healing abilities. It basically tricks your body into thinking it’s going into hypothermia, thus rushing all the blood from your extremities to your chest, then once you’re out of the chamber, flushing fresh blood into your organs and throughout your body. It’s not for the faint of heart—temps get down to negative 200 to 300 degrees, but the 3 minutes go fast and before you know it you’re out and reaping the benefits.

Cryotherapy Facials: applying pressurized liquid nitrogen vapors to the face causes an increase in blood circulation, resulting in tighter, more even skin tone, calmer skin, and smoothed out fine lines and wrinkles + increase in collagen production. You walk out of there with your skin feeling years younger—great to do before a big event.

Local Cryotherapy: used to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling in targeted areas. This is similar to icing, which isolates a particular area to trigger an anti-inflammatory response.

IV Drip Therapy: as mentioned in previous article about IV drip therapy, we’re all so dehydrated. In fact, 75% of us Americans live in a state of chronic dehydration. When you do IV drip therapy, 100% of the hydration is absorbed into your bloodstream, versus the 15-20% when consumed. Administered by their on-site nurse, their IV bags are custom created with added vitamins and minerals based on your needs, and results are immediate.

Hydrafacial: They have an on-site esthetician that performs services such as the Hydrafacial, which deeply cleanses, exfoliates, extracts, and hydrates the skin utilizing super serums filled with antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid.
